Musings, reflections and social drinking whilst pulling a bike apart. Then putting it all back together again.
CREDITS
From the very start I want to thank the Mechanical Alchemist - (aka Pigskin) and the Mechanical Alchemist's Apprentice for their time, patience and for the space taken up in the Workshop of Wonders.

Keeping the river to my left
Fair river! in thy bright, clear flow
Of crystal, wandering water,
Thou art an emblem of the glow
Of beauty --- the unhidden heart ---
The playful maziness of art
In old Alberto's daughter ;
But when within thy wave she looks ---
Which glistens then, and trembles ---
Why, then, the prettiest of brooks
Her worshiper resembles ;
For in his heart, as in thy stream,
Her image deeply lies ---
His heart which trembles at the beam
Of her soul-searching eyes.
Edgar Allan Poe

You talking to me?
After a brief snippet of a radio programme I overheard, I have to agree with Stephen Hawking. (As if I'm capable of backchat!)
The argument goes something like this.
Considering the numbers involved, many scientists, cosmologists think there is a strong possibility that intelligent aliens exist.
To get to the stage where they can travel to other worlds, they must have control of any aggressive instincts inherent in their particular psyche towards their own kind. Otherwise they, like us, could destroy themselves before they could developed the technology to travel to other worlds.
However, have they, during their evolution, developed empathy, compassion or sympathy?
Active SETI beams out our whereabouts to the known Universe
Stephen Hawking imagines it could be a scenario similar to Christopher Columbus landing in America.
I imagine it as this:
We're in a universe sized Romford pub, on a Friday night, full of drunken nutters. We're sitting on a table near the toilets, indiscriminately throwing peanuts at the largest, loudest piss-head and asking him why he's not talking to us.

Patience and Humility
Made a pilgrimage to the British Museum to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman. Accompanied by a friend. My first beatific experience of the year even though I was tongue tied most of the afternoon.
It was an exhibition that due to the exhilarating and inspiring content, is best viewed with a like minded friend. However, visit the show, even if you have to go alone.
The most photographed motorbike of the moment greets you at the entrance and from then on, it is a honeycomb of humour, warmth, skill, pithy comment and incisive observation.
Above all, there is an honesty which nullifies the dichotomy of famous artist in the same glass case as unknown craftsman.
Unfortunately the catalogue is abysmal!
Photography was not allowed inside the gallery. I'll take a trip back with a spy camera, the commentary text alone should be saved for recall.
Patience and humility, what better nouns in the English language?
So, here are my snaps of the extraordinary Kenilworth.

Cesi n'est pas une pipe - Il est wabi sabi
The first pictures on the web of this beautiful object. Pam's pipe starts going into production. African darkwood and silver trim. Can be used for tobacco or anything else you would want to put in your pipe and smoke. An elegant prop for greeting friends, giving strangers complicated directions or straight forward posing. I'm ordering mine right now!
